이민청 신설 본격 준비 (The government preparing to set up a new immigration office / 新移民厅成立准备工作全面展开)
신임 법무부 장관은 6월 17일 취임식에서 종합적인 이민 업무를 담당할 종합적인 이민청 신설 안을 적극 검토하겠다고 밝혔다. 업계와 많은 시민 단체가 그의 계획을 환영하고 있다.
전문가들은 법무부에서 출입국관리사무소를 분리하고 현재 여러 정부 기관에서 나누어 처리하고 있는 모든 이민 관련 업무를 통합할 것을 권고하고 있다. 이는 외국인 거주자들을 위한 종합적인 정책을 시행하기 위한 것이다.
현재 한국 사회에 있는 외국인 거주자는 약 195만 명으로, 한국 전체 인구의 4%에 해당한다. OECD에 따르면, 한 국가에 외국인 거주자가 전체 인구의 5%를 초과하면 다문화 또는 다인종 국가로 분류된다.
The new Minister of Justice said at his inauguration ceremony on June 17 that he will positively review the proposal to establish a new kind of comprehensive immigration authorities. The Industry and many civic groups are welcoming his plan.
Experts have recommended to separate the current Immigration Office from the Ministry of Justice and combine all the immigration-related jobs currently handled by several government agencies. This is to implement comprehensive policies for foreign residents.
Currently, the number of foreign residents in Korean society is about 1.95 million, which is 4% of the total population in Korea. According to the OECD, a country is classified as a multicultural or multiracial country when the number of its foreign residents exceeds 5% of the total population.

目前，约有195万外国人居住在韩国，占韩国总人口的4%。 根据经合组织（OECD）的规定，如果一个国家的外籍人口超过其总人口的 5% 以上时，则该国家将被归为多元文化或多种族国家。
